One of the first things I knew I wanted to tackle after moving into our house was our kitchen. I literally started measuring for new cabinet doors the first week we moved into our house! If you're looking at how I transformed our peninsula to a dark wood - check out this post! To be fair, they did take 8 weeks to arrive which gave me some time to work on our office built-ins (post coming soon!).
Let's take a look at where we started:
So. Much. Honey. Oak. But let me tell you what I actually really liked about this kitchen. We had beautiful cabinets that went all the way to the ceiling which isn't something you see in a typical 90s build. I also loved the large peninsula, and that there were nice stainless steel appliances and beautiful marbled quartz counters! I knew a cabinet makeover could really elevate the look of the kitchen.
I did this by painting our cabinet boxes, and buying all new doors. If you want more details about how I completely refaced our kitchen cabinets I wrote this post with a step by step process!
I also refaced the front of the peninsula. Because there was a cabinet door on the front of the peninsula - I couldn't just sand down the oak and stain it. I had to cover that somehow and I ended up using wood veneer! A step by step post for that is coming soon!
I also moved this cabinet out of our laundry/garage entrance area and made it into our pantry. I also painted this and got new cabinet doors! I decided to contrast the cabinets and painted this shade grown by Sherwin Williams.
I also swapped the light fixture over the sink and the main kitchen light as well. Here is the finished kitchen!
Hope you enjoyed this update! I am excited for the many more to come in our new house.
